At a cottage prayer meeting in the summer of 1943, the need for a church in the community was expressed in a testimony. This was the actual beginning of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Outdoor services were conducted by Reverend Geter Poarch and Reverend Grady Hamby in the groves of the Mr. Cam Berry residence. This led to the organization of a Sunday School, which was held on Sunday afternoons with surrounding churches participating. As Sunday School grew, a need for a church building was seen. In November of 1943, Oak Ridge Baptist Church was organized in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Zimmerman. In the early spring of 1944, work began on the initial sanctuary for the church and the rest is history.

In the years since 1943, Oak Ridge Baptist Church has enjoyed a rich history of worshiping God and ministering to people within the church and surrounding community. Today, just like in the 1940s, you will find the people at Oak Ridge excited about worshiping God and meeting the needs of others in Christ’s name. Simply put, Oak Ridge is a gathering of individuals connected through a shared faith in Jesus Christ, who want to live out that faith in a real and genuine way.
